Trailer: Oscar Nominated “Monsieur Lazhar”
A lovely and charming trailer for Oscar nominated Monsieur Lazhar gives me all the more reason to try and track this down and give it a viewing. Earlier this month it was nominated in the “Best foreign language film” category at the Oscars and it’s always hard to get hold of these films, it normally takes some kind of award before a great foreign film can even find worldwide distribution. The USA is getting a limited release in April while some European countries will follow that, as of now I can’t see a UK release date schedule but let’s hope it gets picked up as I would love to see this on the big screen, I’m going to go out on a limb and say bring your tissues
Synopsis:
Monsieur Lazhar tells the poignant story of a Montreal middle school class shaken by the death of their well-liked teacher and trying to heal. Bachir Lazhar (Fellag), a 55-year-old Algerian immigrant, offers the school his services as a substitute teacher and is quickly hired. As he helps the children heal, he also learns to accept his own painful past.

Saw it this Tuesday here in Lévis (Quebec) and trust the trailer, and the hype that comes from the movie festivals. It is THAT good. To say more would be to ruin the pleasure of watching this little gem.
Just one thing though: tissues are “de rigueur”.
Hey Pierre, glad to hear it lives up to expectation, please leave a link if you write a review, would love to read it
It’s really good, let me assure you, but I have a hard time coming up with the right words to do it justice without giving away too much.
